I began my career at Iowa State University in 1998, working in the Department of Residence as Coordinator for Residential Multicultural Programs. I later joined the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as an academic advisor and multicultural liaison officer. For 13 years, I worked with TRIO Student Support Services, serving as Program Coordinator, Assistant Director, and Director.

I currently serve as the Director of First Scholars Programs. As a first-generation college graduate, I’m passionate about supporting and empowering first-generation students to achieve academic and personal success.

In my role as an Assistant Director in the First Scholars Office, I get to engage with students directly and work with different offices across campus to make sure that students feel supported and connected to resources. I enjoy working with students and my colleagues to develop programs and make sure that students are successful and enjoy their time at ISU. When I'm not on campus, I'm probably either exercising, watching one of my kids play a sport, or relaxing with my pups. Please contact me at jtipton@iastate.edu

I am in my 3rd year in electrical engineering. My favorite part about this role is putting on the events for the mentees and talking with them in general. The thing I enjoy most about Iowa State is being able to meet people from all around the world.
