At the First Scholars Office, we believe that every student deserves to fully celebrate their academic achievements, without financial barriers standing in the way. The Cap and Gown Legacy Project creates pathways for that celebration through two meaningful initiatives: a donation program that allows graduating students to give their caps and gowns back to support future first-generation and income-eligible scholars, and the Regalia Legacy Award, which honors a notable first-generation undergraduate and Ph.D. student each year with a complete set of graduation regalia. Together, these programs transform regalia from a one-time purchase into a lasting symbol of generosity, belonging, and legacy. By participating, whether as a donor or recipient, students become part of a cycle of support that ensures commencement is accessible, affirming, and celebratory for generations to come.
