COMMITMENT:

  • By joining the Pathways to Success (Pathways) Program, students are taking ownership of their college experience and driving their own success.
  • Opt-in: Students may opt into the Fall 26/Spring 27 Pathways program during the first three weeks of each semester. Students interested in participating in Pathways after the third week should schedule a meeting with the First Scholars Staff by emailing firstscholars@iastate.edu.

Program Elements:

First Scholars Fall Welcome: Visit the First Scholars Office during the first week of classes, meet our staff and fellow students, and learn how to take advantage of all resources associated with the First Scholars Office.

Roadmap Recharge Check-in: The First Scholars Office staff will reach out each semester to connect with you during a Roadmap Recharge meeting. These 1:1 meetings provide an opportunity to visit with a member of our staff, get connected with various support resources, discuss progress and goals, and celebrate successes.  If you find yourself in need of support amid shifting priorities, academic underperformance, or unexpected challenges, your FSO staff member will design a Course Correct action plan designed just for you.

Mentor Meetup (optional):

  • The mentorship program is designed to offer you the guidance and support you need to thrive during your academic journey. Participating students will be paired up with a member of ISU faculty or staff who was also a first-generation and/or low-income college student. Mentors in this program are encouraged to share their knowledge and insights, from academic resources to career development opportunities, and strategies for achieving academic excellence. They are there to provide unwavering support, motivation, and encouragement, helping you stay focused on your goals.  You and your mentor can connect through in-person meetings, video calls, or email correspondence.
  • The First Scholars Office will coordinate various opportunities for both mentors and mentees to connect, making sure you have access to valuable resources and support. This program is an excellent opportunity for you to make the most out of your university experience. Whether you are seeking academic guidance, career advice, or personal support, this program is here for you.
